404-633-4505 | Join Us On Sundays at 11AM!
Our faith is 2,000 years old. Our Thinking Is Not!
At Central, we covenant with one another to “walk together in all the ways of the Lord, known to us and to be made known to us…” Learning and Faith Formation classes and small groups help support our covenant.
Our Faith Formation team and Associate Minister work together to survey, support, and create groups that align with the learning and formation goals of our congregation. Most opportunities are short-term, low commitment, so check back often for updates!
We are partnering with The Candler Foundry to host this five-week course facilitated by Jaeun “Kooja” Koo, Hebrew Bible Scholar Doctoral Student at Emory University. This course explores how the Bible works – its history, genres, and truth claims – to help you read Scripture with greater confidence, nuance, and curiosity. No prior training needed – just a willingness to explore. To support our instructor preparation, registration for this class is required. Registration Due: January 7th.
This class will begin meeting on Sunday, January 11th.

Great Decisions will be meeting by Zoom every Tuesday evening, for eight weeks, at 7:00 pm beginning January 20th. This a small group opportunity to discuss world affairs and how our nation functions in the current era. If you would like to attend, and get the Zoom link, please email Lee C. If you would like a book, there are some available in the church office at a cost of $38.00, which covers the cost of the DVD as well. If you get one of those, please pay Lee by check, cash or Zelle. If you want to order your own book from the Foreign Policy Association (800) 477-5836 it will cost $35.00.
Join us for a six-week presentation about the Christian Nationalist movement! The New Perspectives class hopes to share what they have learned over the past year and provide resources to faithfully counter this very dangerous movement, which is threatening our democracy and affecting every one of us. Our conversations will include the film God & Country, excerpts from the PBS series God In America, and lectures by historians and journalists who spoke at Candler School of Theology’s fall conference, Pastoral Leadership in a Time of Christian Nationalism.

In conversation with each other, and selected portions of “Abundance” and “The Serviceberry”, we’ll explore the possibilities of an economy of generosity. We’ll also consider the impact of “scarcity mindsets” on our faith and lives. Abundance is written by Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson. The Serviceberry is written by Robin Wall Kimmerer.
This group will begin meeting later this spring!

The journey to and beyond death is one we all make. In this group, we’ll create space for honest and practical conversations about death and end-of-life planning. Our companions will be each other, and resources from Aging with Dignity’s Five Wishes program and Rev. Karen Johnstone’s Date with Death Club.
This group will begin meeting after Easter Sunday.

This study and discussion class is built on DVD series such as Great Courses lectures by Dr. Bart Ehrman and “Living the Questions” interviews with Marcus Borg, John Dominick Crossan, and others. Please email Nancy W. for more information.

NEW
In 2025, the Practical Theology class will be studying and discussing articles and other materials for mutual support and to inspire action to promote justice, peace, and joy in our troubled world. All are welcome to participate on any Sunday.
Third Place is a small community for anyone in our congregation ages 20-39 (or who still feels that age at heart). We try to meet monthly for a shared meal and faith formation. That may include a book group, bible study, exploring faith through tv, and just holding space for one another at Central. Check our events calendar for information on our next gathering, or reach out to Rev. Thomas!
Join us each Sunday of Advent in the Commons for a half hour reflection on our worship theme and the week ahead. Our devotional is filled with art, reflections, poetry, and hymns that we hope might offer you words for beginning again!
