Beginning Sunday, Oct. 22nd, the New Perspective class will begin a new study: Thinking about Religion and Violence from The Great Courses. This series was developed to “Scrutinize not only the results of religious violence, but what goes into making it as being the best way to understand why our world is producing so much of it, and what we can do about it.”
From violence in sacred texts of multiple religions to topics relevant to current social and political issues, session topics include: Racial Violence and Religion, Religion and Violence against Women, Sexuality, Morality and Punishment, Religion and Just War Theory, and Religious Violence in Israel.
As summed up in the course book: We’ll use multiple sources to assemble a wide range of themes and cases that collectively can help us understand religious violence from multiple perspectives. Such understanding is good in itself, but also a valuable resource for reimagining the world.
New Perspectives is a no-prep, drop-in class, so please consider joining us for this important and timely study. Contact Nancy Wetzel at: njwetzel73@gmail.com for more information.
